Term 1 & 2 September-December 2014

We have had a very busy term since we started our new school year.  We would like to welcome all the new children that have started with us.  Jayden, Hector, Riley, Wiktor, Gracie, Lacey-May and Sandy-Mai we hope you will enjoy your time with us at Pre-School.  We would also like to welcome two new members of staff Zuzanna a new pre-school assistant and Becky our new cook and lunchtime supervisor.

Our topic the first term was Harvest & People Who Help Us.  The first week back was The Woodcote Festival we made lots of cakes, biscuits and our very own Scarecrow which we entered into the competition.  We also grew and entered lots of vegetables from our organic allotment.  We had lots of 1st and 2nd prizes which was amazing!  Well done to all the children and staff for all their hard work.

We joined our friends from The Cabin and the children from Woodcote Primary Reception Class at St Leonard’s Church for our yearly Harvest Festival where the children sang lots of rhymes.  We took along lots of food gifts and baked a loaf of bread for the Harvest.  The children also learned lots of rhymes and actions which they performed at Pre-School for all their parents and families to come and watch.

The children have learnt all about people who help us from the Emergency Services, Doctors, Vets, Teachers, The Post Office, Binmen, Mums and Dads and many more.  We have been going on visits around the village to see all the different places in the community that help us.  There has been lots of different role play, arts and crafts.  We have been practising lots of mark making, counting and numbers.

Our topic the second term was Bonfire & Christmas.  We started the term celebrating Halloween and Bonfire, we made lots of sparkly & gooey cakes, had lots of messy jelly play with bugs in it, bonfire and firework pictures.  We had lots of stories and conversations about safety.  We had our annual Halloween Parade where all the children and staff came to Pre-School dressed up in their outfits, there were lots of scary witches and skeletons.  The children were marvellous singing more new rhymes that they had learnt to their families who came to watch.  We went to the allotment and collected all our pumpkins that we grew, there were so many that the children all got to take one home each and we still had enough left to make some lovely pumpkin soup.

The second half of the term was based around Christmas, where the children were very busy role-playing being Santa on their sleigh, playing shops, toolmakers, bakers and dressing up in all our christmas outfits.  They made lots of special presents and cards for their families, there was lots of glitter and sparkle everywhere!  The children helped decorate the christmas tree and made decorations to hang around the room.  We had our traditional christmas lunch of roast turkey and all the trimmings which they all enjoyed.  We practised and performed our nativity play The Christmas Star, the children did a wonderful performance and we are very proud of them.  We finished the last day of term with our Christmas Party where we had a visit from Santa with a present for each child, Jester Giggles came and entertained the children and we had lots of dancing and a buffet lunch.

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you A Happy & Prosperous New Year!
