This term the children have been reading the story of the little red hen, learning about growing, harvesting and making bread from corn. They have been busy putting their hands together making bread themselves and enjoyed making bread rolls. The older children have had a go at plaiting bread and their favourite hedgehog shape rolls.

The children have been pirates down at the allotment digging for treasure, working together to collect it. They have also have been enjoying playing with the diggers and trucks we have for them. The children have been watching the pumpkins grow and change colour from stripy green to bright orange, ready for picking for Halloween. When ready we will turn them into lanterns and make pumpkin and red pepper soup, which we will serve with pumpkin bread. We shall use the pumpkins to make Jamaican hot roots curry for the children’s lunches.

We have been learning about shape and size and the children have enjoyed measuring each other, and marking their height on the chart they made to see who is the tallest and smallest. They have also been rushing around pre-school comparing the different heights of their toys.

The children have been learning Halloween rhymes like flutter, flutter little bat, to sing to their parents at the Halloween parade at the end of term, while wearing their fantastic Halloween costumes.
