09/06/2010We are back from Easter and have been enjoying the glorious weather (bound to jinx it now I’ve said it) so it was off to the allotment to pick some rhubarb. We were shown how to pick it correctly and carried it back to the Village Hall. You may well have seen us carrying it back; the rhubarb was very nearly as big as the children. It was deliciously made into a rhubarb crumble with custard, for lunch. We will be making more trips to the allotment in the coming weeks and months to plant seeds and tend to our growing veggies. Much discussion has been had regarding what to plant, carrots seem popular (oh dear) as do cauliflowers and sweet-corn. Watch this space; we will keep you updated. We have been learning all about our body parts, and have been drawing round each other, to make life-size cut outs, and we have been singing, “Heads, shoulders knees and toes”, at the top of our voices. Outside, we have been learning how to play all the sports being played on the Village Green, making use of the football nets at the far end of the green, and we have been practicing our cricket skills. The temptation to see how we go on the crease is tempting indeed, especially as we are able to see Sam caring for it from the Pavilion Room. We have held ourselves back so far…. We are also learning about our local area and will be visiting the local shop, buying snacks for tea, and seeds from the garden centre for the allotment. Nature walks have been great fun: we have found frogs, snails, slugs, worms and loads of mini-beasts; the staff seemed not to be terribly keen on the latter.
The frogs we put in the Primary School Pond, so others can look at them; we weren’t allowed to keep the mini-beasts…
